TRADITIONAL JAPANESE SWORDSMANSHIP
NIHON KOBUDO IAIJUTSU
Iaido, or Iaijutsu, was once the martial artform practiced by the Japanese samurai in war times and in peace.
Today, Iaido is practiced all over the world as a method of self-development, rigorous physical training, and for enjoyment.
The Ryu Shin Ryu dojo trains in the traditions of Maeda Asano Soke, who bought her philosophy and technical applications of Iaido and Kenbu to Australia over 30 years ago.
We train with Shinken (live blades for experienced members), Bokken (wooden weapons), and Nagamaki (polearms). Our training incorporates paired exercises, solo exercises, unarmed techniques and Tamashigiri (test cutting).
Iaido is suitable for all body types, ages (15+) and fitness levels, beginners or experienced martial artists.
Iaido requires extreme precision of its techniques and demands tremendous concentration during practice - both of which ask a great deal of self-discipline and sincere personal commitment on the part of the student in order to master. As a reward for these efforts, it can offer the individual a lifetime of physical, mental, and spiritual growth, as well as an enlightened and peaceful state of mind.
